Documentary production is a growing and exciting field in the South African film and TV Industry. There are so many wonderful and exciting stories to be told about our country and the people living in it. With the rise of cheaper film production equipment, documentary production is now available to anyone with an understanding of how to produce a good documentary. This course will set you on your way for that story you have always wanted to tell.


Welcome to our Introduction to Documentary Production Course. Over the eight modules in this course, you will learn about the documentary-making process. You will be introduced to different styles of documentary films with an extensive viewing list provided by the facilitator. We will then move on to how to tell the story you have always wanted to tell.

Subject Expert


Nicky Newman is a documentary producer and director. She has been making documentary films for 25 years and her films have been screened in documentary film festivals all over the world. In addition to being a prolific filmmaker, she also teaches documentary production at CityVarsity.
